We study the bound-free electron-positron pair production in relativistic heavy ion collisions to different bound states in a full Plane Wave Born Approximation (PWBA) calculation. Exact Dirac wave functions are used for both the bound electron and the free positron in the final states. Results for the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider RHIC as well as the forthcoming Large Hadron Collider (LHC) are given. This process is one of the dominant beam loss processes and can become critical for the...

We calculate the production of relativistic antihydrogen atoms by bound-free pair production. The cross section is calculated in the semiclassical approximation (SCA), or equivalently in the plane wave Born approximation (PWBA) using exact Dirac-Coulomb wave functions. We compare our calculations to the equivalent photon approximation (EPA).

Considering C$_{60}$ as a model system for describing field emission from the extremity of a carbon nanotip, we explore electron emission from this fullerene excited by an intense, near-infrared, few-cycle laser pulse ($10^{13}$-$10^{14}~{\rm W/cm}^2$, 912 nm, 8-cycle). To this end, we use time-dependent density functional theory augmented by a self-interaction correction. The ionic background of C$_{60}$ is described by a soft jellium model. Particular attention is paid to the high energy...

This article is from Journal of Cerebral Blood Flow & Metabolism , volume 34 . Abstract We report on oxygenation changes noninvasively recorded by multichannel continuous-wave near infrared spectroscopy (CW-NIRS) during endovascular neuroradiologic interventions requiring temporary balloon occlusion of arteries supplying the cerebral circulation. Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) provides reference data on the site, timing, and effectiveness of the flow stagnation as well as on the...

The spin polarization of Pt in Pt/NiFe2O4 and Pt/Fe bilayers is studied by interface-sensitive x-ray resonant magnetic reflectivity to investigate static magnetic proximity effects. The asymmetry ratio of the reflectivity was measured at the Pt L3 absorption edge using circular polarized x-rays for opposite directions of the magnetization at room temperature. The results of the 2% asymmetry ratio for Pt/Fe bilayers are independent of the Pt thickness between 1.8 and 20 nm. By comparison with ab...
